Background of Berkshire Hathaway, Inc

  • Berkshire Hathaway, Inc., established in 1839 by Oliver Chace as the Valley Falls Company in Valley Falls, Rode Island, is an American multinational conglomerate holding company which is headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska.

  • Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. has a rich history that started with it as a textile manufacturing company which merged with the Berkshire Cotton Manufacturing Company in 1929 to form Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates.

  • There was a merger between Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates and Hathaway Manufacturing Company in 1955 led to the birth of Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. which had 15 plants and over 12,000 employees with its headquarters based in New Bedford.

  • Warren Buffet started purchasing stock in Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. after he had noticed a particular pattern concerning the price direction of its stock whenever a mill was closed.
