Trustco Group Holdings shares

Background of Trustco

  • Trustco Group Holdings is a diversified financial services group established in Namibia, investing and operating in sustainable high-growth assets in emerging markets. Trustco’s history stems back to 1992, and today the group has a widespread presence in Namibia, South Africa and Mauritius.

  • The group’s operations are split into three segments, namely Insurance, Investments and Banking & Finance.

  • The Insurance division offers short-term and life products for sale to lower income customers, while the group is a market leader for legal insurance cover in Namibia. The Investment division comprises a portfolio created by returns from insurance operations, and comprises active and passive investments in property development, education, air charters and media services. In the Banking division, Trustco Bank Namibia Ltd, one of only eight licensed commercial banks in Namibia, focuses on retail banking via a branch network.

  • Trustco shares are available to buy on the Namibian Stock Exchange and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE).

Trustco Shares Growth Driver

  • The group’s 2016 financial data shows that Investment income is by far the largest contributor to the group’s revenue at N$728 million, followed by Banking & Finance (N$221 million) and then Insurance (N$201 million). Within this, property sales revenue is the biggest contributor, and these results have been boosted by good demand for new properties.

  • The group recorded an excellent performance for the year, managing to significantly increase earnings and net asset value, while delivering above average return on equity. Net profit increased by 38% from the previous year, up to N$420 million. The most impressive gain was seen in the Insurance segment, which grew net profit by 400% to N$45 million, due to substantial reduction in operating costs in South Africa and a 7% growth in premium revenue. The company continues to buy into its important Investments segments, with the larger property sales portfolio, increased educational revenue and a small increase in advertising income in the media divisions resulting in a 19% increase in profit to N$317 million. The Banking & Finance division recorded the first full year of operations for Trustco Bank. Net profit grew 8% to N$57 million. Overall, shareholders enjoyed good increases in dividends and headline earnings per share.

  • Trustco looks to further drive growth through synergies between the banking, insurance and investments segments, which is forecast to ratchet up local market penetration and set the foundations for future growth. The company also seeks opportunities to buy into complementary businesses and grow existing businesses through innovation.

Trustco Group Investor Tip

  • After a period of consolidation, the group has been a strong growth curve recently, which was reflected in a rising Trustco share price. Trustco share price has since levelled out on the live online JSE stocks chart, but the company’s good financial results and continued appetite for growth means that the stock is still a worthwhile small-cap buy. With the Insurance segment back to profitability and a promising new prospect in the form of Trustco Bank, investors who buy Trustco shares have plenty to be excited about.
