SpreadEx Overview
SpreadEx is a leading sport and financial spread betting, sports fixed odds betting, and casino betting firm in the United Kingdom that was founded in 1999. It was originally headquartered in Bedfordshire but in 2008 moved to St Albans, Hertfordshire.
SpreadEx was originally established as a financial trading service with online spread betting and first launched online sports betting service in 2006, followed by the financial online trading platform.
In 2012, it gave its online trading platform a facelift to include advanced features like one-click trading, standard or pairs view, and customizable trading windows.
Since SpreadEx is a UK-based brokerage and sports betting firm, it is fully licensed by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the UK. Thus, the broker fully complies with the necessary regulatory requirements in the manner the company is operated.
One of the requirements is that clients’ funds be kept segregated from the company’s operating capital via tier-1 banks and that they use advanced encryption technologies and follow several security protocols.
Another requirement is to enable every client to participate in the FSCS Scheme that compensates up to £ 50 000 in the unlikely event of the company insolvency.
SpreadEx has won many awards over the years, with the most recent being the Best Sports Spread Betting Operator at the 2025 EGR Operator Awards and Best Financial Spread Betting Provider at the City of London Wealth Management Awards 2025.
The broker has been listed three times in the Sunday Times Profit Track list of the top 100 fastest-growing UK companies and was named in the FT1000 report of the top 1000 fastest-growing companies in Europe in 2017.
With SpreadEx, clients have access to over 10 000 global markets that include Forex (including Bitcoin), indices, shares, commodities, bonds, options, Exchange Traded funds, and interest rates. Trades can be executed on the SpreadEx proprietary platform.
SpreadEx is the only company to offer sports spread betting and sports fixed odds betting from the same account. It does not offer an Islamic account or the option to open a demo account.
Furthermore, SpreadEx is one of the few betting companies that offer credit facilities, which means that sports betters can place wagers on global sports events without having to deposit funds first.
The broker will give credit limits of up to £ 2 000 when you open your account. This can have an advantage to traders, but it is also important to keep in mind that a credit limit does not limit your financial loss or liability. Credit facilities depend on your client’s status and individual circumstances.
Customers from the United States and Canada are not accepted as clients at SpreadEx.
SpreadEx Account Types
SpreadEx offers only one live account type for both financials and sports.
Each potential new client must pass a compliance check as required by FCA before an account can be opened.
Some clients may also qualify for a credit limit. You can apply for this when you sign up. If accepted, you can trade immediately without having to deposit funds into your account. Alternatively, you can opt for the standard pay-as-you-go option.

SpreadEx Demo Account
SpreadEx does not offer traders the option of opening a Demo Account. This kind of account can be used in many ways, such as:
- Being a practice account for beginner traders who wish to improve their trading skills and experience in a risk-free environment using virtual funds.
- Beginner or more advanced traders who are evaluating and comparing brokers would like to explore SpreadEx’s trading conditions in a risk-free environment.
- Traders who wish to test their trading strategies in a mimicked live trading environment without risking their capital.
Demo accounts usually come with the same features as the live account type and allow traders to practice trading without any risk involved.
SpreadEx Islamic Account
The purpose of an Islamic Account is that it caters specifically to Muslim traders who follow the Sharia law. The law prevents its followers from paying any type of interest, such as overnight fees, which is seen as wasteful or exploitative.
Overnight fees are charged should traders hold positions open for longer after the trading day has concluded and this type of account allows exemption from such fees or interest, should they hold positions open for longer.
SpreadEx does not offer an Islamic Account to Muslim traders who follow the Sharia law.
