Sasol Financial Performance 2025 to Date

Sasol Financial Performance 2025

Sasol had a solid set of results for the fiscal year ending 30 June 2021. Sasol’s EBIT of R16.6 billion showed an increase of almost 100% compared to the previous year. Cost, working capital, and capital expenditure performance were all very robust, underpinning the outcome despite the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 epidemic and unfavorable weather.  The combined effect of increased Brent crude oil and chemical prices, partially offset by a stronger rand/US dollar exchange rate, led to a considerable gross margin rebound in the second half of the fiscal year.

However, in 2021, while the restoration of dividends was a key priority of Sasol, shareholders did not receive a payout because of macroeconomic uncertainties, resulting in the Board not declaring a dividend.  Subsequently, 2025 would mark the second year Sasol did not pay dividends to its shareholders.

Sasol Financial Performance 2025

Despite increasing volatility due to continued geopolitical tensions, prolonged COVID-19 lockdowns, and global supply chain disruptions, Sasol generated robust financial results. By implementing the Sasol 2.0 program in 2025, Sasol could benefit from increasing energy and chemical costs and tighter controls over expenses and investments. Because of smoother operations in the second part of the fiscal year, we saw a rise in profitability. Accordingly, for the fiscal year ending 30 June 2025, a final gross cash dividend of 14.70 ZAR per share was announced.

Both ordinary and Sasol BEE ordinary shares were paid out in Cash Dividends, determined by sufficient cash on hand, credit, and capital after dividend payment to ensure that operations for the next year could continue. There are 629 million ordinary shares and 6.3 million Sasol BEE ordinary shares outstanding. Accordingly, shareholders subjected to withholding tax received a dividend pay-out of 11.76 ZAR per share as opposed to those exempted from tax who receive 14.70 ZAR.

Sasol Dividends and Pay-Out History Highlights

Factors that influenced Sasol’s Finances

Financial Year 2025 (FY2022) was fraught with challenges that affected Sasol’s overall business, including:

  • Covid-19 lockdowns in China.
  • Geopolitical tensions, such as the war in Ukraine.
  • Weather-related events.
  • Disruptions in global supply chains, and more.

These factors reduced global demand and prompted recession fears in developed and developing nations. Yet, despite the unpredictability, Sasol demonstrated resiliency by achieving remarkable financial success. Brent crude oil, gasoline, and chemical prices increased, which aided our bottom line. Once the impacts of COVID-19 subsided, Sasol witnessed a comeback in demand for its entire product line, and cautious spending on operational costs and capital expenditures also benefited our profitability.

In the aftermath of Capital Markets Day (CMD) in September 2025, Sasol significantly strengthened its balance sheet and achieved dividend trigger objectives.  Fleetwood Grobler, chief executive officer and president of Sasol, has proclaimed the restoration of dividend payments commencing in the fiscal year 2025. Furthermore, Sasol’s ultimate objective is consistently to increase its shareholders’ investment returns.
