  • T-Mobile US, Inc., is an American wireless network operator that conducts business under the global brand name T-Mobile.
  • T-Mobile US, Inc. traces its history back to 1994 with the establishment of VoiceStream Wireless PCS, a subsidiary of Western Wireless Corporation.
  • VoiceStream Wireless PCS provided wireless personal communication services (PCS) in 19 service areas which were defined by the FCC in several western and southwestern states which used the GSM digital wireless standard.
  • The digital, urban service areas of VoiceStream Wireless complemented an analogue, rural service area which was marketed by Western Wireless under the Cellular One brand. In May 1999, Western Wireless spun off the VoiceStream Wireless division into VoiceStream Wireless Corporation.
  • In 2000, VoiceStream Wireless completed the purchase of two regional GSM Carriers namely Omnipoint Corporation and Aerial Communications, Inc.
  • The combined company decided to retire the Omnipoint and Aerial brands by integrating the three companies by converting it into a single customer billing platform, implementing standard business practices, and subsequently launching the VoiceStream brand and “GET MORE” marketing strategy through a variety of markets.
  • In 2001, Deutsche Telekom (DT) acquired VoiceStream Wireless, Inc. for $35 billion (511 billion ZAR) as well as Southern US regional GSM network operator, Powertel, Inc. for another $24 billion (350 billion ZAR).
